Surprise of the day: half-naked Verdasco with a purpose
World No. 8 Fernando Verdasco took some time to practice his kickboxing skills in Bangkok, Thailand. The Spaniard, seeded second at this week’s Thailand Open, posed with 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medalist Somjit Jongjorhor.
Verdasco commented:
“I would love to learn more Thai boxing. I’ve always loved martial arts so maybe when I stop playing tennis I can learn some more. It was a lot of fun to learn some of the moves today.”
The 26-year-old is due to open his Thailand Open bid against veteran Benjamin Becker of Germany on Thursday.
What’s the surprise? That Verdasco is half naked or that there is a purpose to his nakedness?

Perhaps Verdasco should have played nearly nekkid today.
This (again) is my issue with Verdasco. He just did another editorial for some designer or something, flashed his abs ad nauseum…but when he needs to execute for his real job, he loses in the opening round. It’s all well and good that he wants to be the tennis version of CR-7, but he has to produce on court. This kind of result is a joke.
